In short: Athleon doesn’t collect data about you.
- There’s no account to create, and no analytics, advertising, crash reporting or tracking.
- Your training is stored on your iPhone and Apple Watch and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud storage.
- Cloud Coaching is off unless you turn it on. When it’s on, Coach sends what an answer needs through Athleon’s server to Anthropic, whose AI model writes the reply. Athleon’s server doesn’t store or log it, and Anthropic doesn’t use it to train its models.
- Form Check follows your movement on your iPhone. Camera footage and videos are never uploaded.
- What you share with Social or Train Together goes, through iCloud, only to the people you invite.
- Apple Health access is optional and used only inside Athleon.
Data we collect
Athleon (the iPhone and Apple Watch apps and this website) doesn’t collect, sell or share personal data for the developer’s use, and contains no analytics, advertising, crash reporting or tracking code. The only server Athleon runs is the Coach server described under Cloud Coaching. It passes requests on without storing or logging what’s in them, and keeps only anonymous usage counters.
Your training data
Your workouts, templates, exercises, gyms, goals, profile, settings and Form History are stored on your devices. If you’re signed in to iCloud, Athleon keeps them in sync through your private iCloud database, which Apple stores under your Apple Account as described in Apple’s Privacy Policy. The developer can’t see it.
Athleon Coach
Coach writes its answers, reviews, plans and Form Check reports from the training you’ve logged. Your conversations and reports are saved only on your iPhone, so you can pick up where you left off. They aren’t synced to iCloud or kept on any server. You can delete all your conversations in Athleon under Settings › Coach and Social › Athleon Coach › Conversations, and deleting the app removes the rest.
Unless you turn on Cloud Coaching, Coach writes on your iPhone, with Apple Intelligence where your iPhone supports it, and nothing you ask leaves your device.
Cloud Coaching
Cloud Coaching is off unless you turn it on in Athleon under Settings › Coach and Social › Athleon Coach › Privacy. When it’s on, Coach’s answers and reports are written by an AI model from Anthropic (Anthropic’s Privacy Policy). Here’s exactly what that involves.
What’s sent. Only what a reply needs, for the thing you asked about:
- For answers and reports: exercise names and the sets you logged, with reps, targets, loads, effort, time, distance and rest, recent comparisons for the item you asked about, and the goals, experience, focus areas and weekly training days from your profile.
- For a conversation: your question and the conversation so far, and a summary of your training such as your strongest lifts, weekly volume per muscle and each exercise’s recent history.
- For a plan: your answers to the plan questions, such as your goal, experience, schedule, where you train, your equipment and the exercises you love or avoid.
- For a Form Check report: the measurements and scores for each rep. Never video or images.
- Your app language and the coach you picked, so the reply is in the right language and voice.
- Your notes are sent only if you turn on Include Notes, and the health considerations in your profile only if you turn on Include Health Considerations. Both are off unless you turn them on.
Requests carry no record identifiers or timestamps, and nothing that identifies you, such as your name, email address or Apple Account. Nothing from Apple Health or your body measurements, such as your weight, height, age or heart rate, is ever sent.
How it travels. The app sends the request over an encrypted connection to Athleon’s Coach server, which runs on Cloudflare. The server checks the request is genuine, passes it to Anthropic and returns the reply. It doesn’t store or log what you asked or what Coach wrote. Anthropic processes the request to write the reply and doesn’t use it to train its models. It keeps API requests only for its standard retention period, under its commercial terms. No identifier of you or your device is sent to Anthropic.
What the server keeps. To protect the service and apply fair-use limits, Athleon uses Apple’s App Attest so the server can tell a genuine Athleon install from anything else. For each install, the server keeps an anonymous App Attest key and its public key, and counters of how many requests that install made each minute, day and month. The counters are overwritten as each period passes. These records contain no training content and nothing that identifies you. If you have Athleon Pro, the app also sends Apple’s signed proof of your subscription so the right limits apply; it contains no payment details. Cloudflare processes standard connection data, such as IP addresses, to deliver and protect the server.
If Cloud Coaching isn’t available, for example when you’re offline, Coach writes on your iPhone instead and tells you so. You can turn Cloud Coaching off at any time.
Camera, videos and Form Check
Form Check uses the camera, or a video you pick or film, to follow your movement. Pose and rep measurements are calculated on your iPhone with Apple’s Vision framework. The camera feed and videos are never uploaded, and temporary copies of videos are removed when the analysis closes. Form History keeps the scores and reps from each check, never the video, and syncs through your private iCloud like the rest of your training. With Cloud Coaching on, the written report is based on the per-rep measurements described above.
Social and Train Together
These features use iCloud sharing. When you join a circle or a shared workout, the things you choose to share are stored in iCloud and are visible to the people in that circle or workout: your display name and profile picture, workouts you post, likes, comments, gym check-ins and, during a shared workout, the sets you log. Nothing is public. Check-ins end on their own, and you can leave a circle or stop sharing at any time.
If you turn on Activity Notifications, Apple delivers a notification when someone in your circle likes, comments, joins or checks in.
Apple Health and Apple Watch
With your permission, Athleon reads your height, weight, date of birth and biological sex from Health to fill in your profile, and your bodyweight history and heart rate to show them alongside your training. It saves your finished workouts to Health, with their estimated active energy, and the bodyweight you enter. On Apple Watch, Athleon reads your heart rate and active energy during a workout and saves the workout to Health.
Health data is used only inside Athleon. It is never used for advertising, never sold and never sent to the developer. You can change these permissions at any time in the Health app. Your Apple Watch and iPhone exchange your workout directly, through Apple’s frameworks.
Athleon Pro
Athleon Pro subscriptions are sold and processed by Apple through the App Store. The developer receives no payment details or personal information. To remind you before a free trial ends, Athleon schedules a notification on your iPhone.
Imports, photos and links
Files you import from Hevy, Strong or Fitbod are read on your iPhone, and your original export is never changed. If you share a Hevy routine link with Athleon, the app downloads that routine from Hevy. Athleon asks to add images to your photo library only to save share cards you create. When you choose a profile photo or a video for Form Check, you pick it with Apple’s photo picker, so Athleon only sees what you pick and can’t read the rest of your library.
If you email [email protected] or [email protected], your message and email address are used only to reply to you or, if you asked, to tell you when Athleon launches. They are never shared or used for anything else. Ask, and we’ll delete our correspondence with you.
